Jalandhar Map

The Population of the city has grown at a rapid pace in the last four decades. The urban population has increased from 1.98 Lakhs in 1951 to 5.05 Lakhs in 1991 registering a decadal growth rate of 23%. The estimated population of the city in 1996 is about 7 Lakhs. Large-scale migration from the other urban and rural areas coupled with industrial development has led to rise in population. The floating population is also high due to high commercial activity in the city. The growth of population is presented in the following table:
