As a part of its effort to improve the quality and promptness in the delivery of civic service to the citizens of Jalandhar, the Municipal Corporation of Jalandhar has released "Citizens' Charter" to achieve the twin objectives of streamlining public services and informing the citizens regarding their rights and responsibilities.
This document is a commitment to provide efficient and prompt civic services to the citizens in the expectation that the citizens will reciprocate and involve themselves in the healthy growth and upkeep of their City.
The goal of the Corporation is to create local administrative machinery that is always alive to public expectations and create a lasting partnership between the citizens and civic administration in the endeavor to build a brighter future and a Better Jalandhar.
The purpose behind the Citizens' Charter is to:
• Provide all important information to the citizens about the services being delivered by MCJ and the concerned departments.
• Generate public awareness regarding the rights and responsibilities of the citizens with regard to the functions discharged and the time frame in which public grievances will be attended to by various municipal functionaries.
• Create a network of service centers which are close to the people and which can receive and act upon public grievances promptly; and
• Solicit the cooperation of the people in maintenance of a clean, green and healthy city in the spirit of self-help, mutual help, partnership and togetherness.
The services provided by the Municipal Corporation of Jalandhar to the citizens include the following:
• Health & Sanitation.
• Water Supply & Sewerage.
• Roads, Drains and other Civic Amenities including Street Lighting.
• Town Planning.
• Parks (Horticulture).
• Registration of Births & Deaths.
• Licences & Permissions.
It is a commitment on the part of the Municipal Corporation of Jalandhar that the civic body will make all-out efforts to improve the quality of the existing services and become fully responsive to the changing needs of the citizens.
Rights confer concurrent duties on the citizens and therefore it is once again hoped that all the citizens participate wholeheartedly in the overall development of the city by observing and fulfilling their duties as conscientious citizens.
Citizens Cooperation Solicited:
• Throw waste only at designated places and not on roads and public areas;
• Use garbage/litter bins;
• Don't throw garbage in drains/nalas and catch pits;
• Avoid connecting sewer lines to storm water drains;
• Avoid occupation of roads and footpaths with unauthorized stacking of materials or by raising structures;
• Avoid letting of waste water on to roads;
• Conserve rain water and take up rainwater harvesting structures;
• Avoid leaving animals on roads and public places;
• Avoid misuse of parks, green-belts, playgrounds and other public places;
• Plant trees within and in front of premises, water them and help them to grow;
• Don't damage municipal and other government properties;
• Promptly pay Licence Fees/House Tax/Water & Sewerage Charges as levied in accordance with municipal laws;
• Construct and use buildings as per approved plan and the zoning/building regulations in force;
• Don't encroach public places and properties by religious or other structures;
• Complain to the right officer in time and liaise with the Ward Councilor;
